Government research shows that people
spend up to 90% of their time indoors, but research also shows that
indoor air quality is 10 to 100 times more polluted than outside
air. And did you know that each person breathes an average of two
teaspoons of dust, dust mites, pollen, mold, viruses, bacteria, pet
dander, carpet fiber and second hand smoke into their lungs each
day? Doesn't sound too healthy does it? And your disposable filter
in your furnace is trapping less than 10% of the pollutants.
How can you combat the problem?
If your home is less than a year or two old the solution may be as
simple as an upgraded air filter (electrostatic) that will prevent
much of the pollutants from entering your air system. Older homes
may first require a thorough duct cleaning.
Most importantly, have your coils cleaned yearly by a certified
technician. Make sure an anti-bacterial solution is used in the
cleaning process.
You will find that by maintaining a cleaner air system that you will
not only breathe easier but your air conditioner will as well. This
means lower electric bills for you and healthier living for your
family.
